Vietnam's Climbing Scene

Climbing Types

Vietnam offers diverse climbing experiences with these primary styles:

  • Sport Climbing - Most developed in Cat Ba and Ha Long Bay area
  • Deep Water Soloing - Unique climbing over water in Ha Long Bay
  • Bouldering - Growing areas near Hanoi and beach locations
  • Multi-pitch - Limited but developing on taller formations

Best Climbing Seasons

The ideal climbing window for most of Vietnam is from October to April, offering cooler temperatures and dry conditions.

  • Prime Season: November to February - perfect friction and temperatures
  • Shoulder Season: October and March-April - still good but variable
  • Avoid: May to September - humid, hot, with frequent rain

Local Climbing Community

Vietnam's climbing community is small but growing rapidly. Connect with local climbers through gyms in Hanoi (VietClimb), Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon Climbing Center), and through the "Vietnam Climbing" Facebook group. Local climbers often share beta, can help with transportation, and sometimes offer crash pads for rent.
